Thais leave Egypt
About 80 Thais arrived back in Bangkok from strife-torn Cairo on August 25. The group travelled on a Singapore Airlines flight and arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport at about 11:40 am, Foreign Ministry deputy spokesman Jakkrit Srivali said.
They follow 11 Thais who arrived at the airport on August 24, Jakkrit said.
The Thai embassy in Cairo has warned Thais remaining in Egypt to avoid travelling to 28 areas used as major rally sites. Thais live in eight of the capital’s 28 violence-prone locations.

Passenger train derails
A train derailed on August 23 in Hang Chat district of Lampang. A Chiang Mai to Bangkok free train carrying about 80 passengers was heading to the capital when it derailed about 8:10 am. Nobody was hurt.
The accident happened near Ban Mae Tan Noi in the district. It was near the spot where a previous derailment took place on August 17.
It took three hours to get the train back on the tracks. State Railway of Thailand governor Prapas Chongsanguan said the derailment was likely a result of heavy rain making the soil too soft.

Raging river
Phetchabun communities flooded
Flood waters from the Pasak River burst through sandbags. It happened in Phetchabun province on August 24. The flooding damaged two nearby communities. Some roads were impassable. Nobody was injured.
