Haunted man redeems his past

The Kite Runner is an emotional tale of friendship, family, mistakes and redeeming love from Monsters Ball director Marc Forster. The film is set mostly in Afghanistan just as the country is on the verge of war and total chaos.

The story begins with a kite-flying tournament held on a glorious afternoon in Kabul. Two childhood friends in the tournament, Amir (Zekeria Ebrahimi) and Hassan (Ahmad Khan Mahmidzada), are about to be torn apart forever.

Most of The Kite Runner was filmed in Kashgar, China, due to the dangers of filming in Afghanistan at the time.

In the aftermath of the competition, Amir commits a fearful act of betrayal against Hassan, which sets in motion events that will change their lives forever.

The story then cuts to the adult Amir (Khalid Abdalla), who has been living in America for the past 20 years. Amir decides to return to a perilous Afghanistan under the iron-fisted rule of the Taliban. He aims to face the dark secrets that haunt him and to make a daring effort to set things right.

The heart-wrenching drama of The Kite Runner hits theatres on March 6.
