The unusual new ghost movie Rak Rao Kayao Kwan (She-Devil) explores the question of what a guy would do if his dream girl became possessed by a ghost.

In She-Devil, 28-year-old Tattoo Colour singer Harin Suthamjatas (Dim) plays a naïve country guy named Woen, who has a crush on a beautiful girl in his village named Ploy, played by 21-year-old Panyanut Jirarottanakasem (Zeen).

When Woen and Ploy’s parents arrange the couple’s marriage, Woen is thrilled. However, on the night of their wedding, Ploy suddenly changes into a different and decidedly scary person. Rather than run away, Woen decides to everything he can to bring the real Ploy back.

Student Weekly recently met up with Dim and Zeen at a cinema to chat about ghosts and She-Devil.

Student Weekly: Do either of you really believe in ghosts?

Zeen: Yes. I’m scared of ghosts, although I’ve never seen one. Like a lot of people, my imagination conjures up things when I’m in a dark or unfamiliar place.

Dim: I believe in ghost, but I’m not afraid of them. I used to dream about my friend from the Small Room label who passed away after a motorcycle accident. He appeared in my dreams several times. My band mates and other people at Small Room also had dreams about him.

Student Weekly: Zeen, how did you feel about working on your first movie?

Zeen: When I passed the audition, I was overwhelmed with many kinds of emotions. I was excited but worried about doing a good job.

Student Weekly: Were you already a fan of Tattoo Colour?

Zeen: I’ve liked their songs since I was in high school, but I’m not a diehard fan. I was thrilled to know that I’d be working with Dim. My friends who are fans of the band asked me to get Dim’s autograph!

Student Weekly: Dim, how did the experience of making this film compare to your previous movies?

Dim: Working on this movie was tough. Woen is a very different character to me. He’s quite calm, whereas I like to joke around. I’m used to playing characters who express themselves verbally, but this character mostly used body language to express his feelings.

Student Weekly: What would you do if you dated somebody who was possessed by a ghost?

Dim: If that happened to me in real life, I’d have to consider how long we’d been dating. If we’d been together for a long time, I’d try to cure her. But if we’d only just met, I’d run away!

Zeen: I would have to think about how serious the relationship was. If I really had strong feelings for a guy who was possessed by a ghost, I’d do whatever I could to cure him.

Student Weekly: Which scene in the film was the most difficult to shoot?

Dim: There’s an emotional scene when Woen thinks he might lose Ploy. I’d never cried on a movie set before. The director helped me to understand how the character was feeling. He reminded of what Woen had been through to cure Ploy and how sorry he would be to lose her.

Zeen: I had a difficult scene where Ploy has a conversation about her feelings with Woen. Ploy is usually quiet and sad throughout the film, but in that scene she tells Woen how she feels about him.

Student Weekly: What are the special effects in this movie like?

Zeen: The main focus was on make-up. The make-up artist did a great job. I looked very scary when I was made up as a ghost. I think overall the special effects in this film are as good as any other recent movies.

Student Weekly: Dim, we heard that you’re a foodie. What’s the most unusual dish you’ve tried recently?

Dim: I ate a northern dish called loo, which is pork blood seasoned with various spices and vegetables, but it wasn’t well cooked. We could see the colour of blood clearly, but nobody got stomach ache from eating it. Zeen also tried it.

Student Weekly: Why should viewers check out She-Devil?

Dim: Any couples who watch this movie will realise that the problems they have are tiny. You will see how people can dedicate themselves to love, and how love can conquer all.

Zeen: The movie has funny, romantic and touching moments. Watching She-Devil will help to relieve your stress. Everybody worked hard on this film, so please go to see it!
