The new psychological drama, Melancholia, is the latest film from renowned Danish director Lars von Trier.
Justine (Kirsten Dunst) and Michael (Alexander Skarsgård) are celebrating their marriage at a sumptuous party in the castle home of her sister, Claire, (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and brother-in-law, John (Kiefer Sutherland).
As the night progresses, it seems that all is not well with the marriage, which is eventually called off. Justine becomes depressed and decides to stay with Claire and John, along with their young son Leo (Cameron Spurr), as she tries to pull her life together.
Meanwhile, scientists have announced that a large planet called Melancholia will pass by Earth. Justine becomes worried that the planets will collide, however it eventually passes by without incident.
Soon, however, it becomes clear that Melancholia is heading back towards Earth and that this time they will collide. With the end of the world imminent, Claire starts to becomes frantic, while Justine grows increasing calm and at peace with herself.
