University Tips is here to help you prepare for the English exams and tests that are coming your way. They will give you practice answering questions similar to those you may have on school tests and also in the university entrance examination.

SECTION 1

Read the story. Then, answer the multiple-choice questions that follow.

Dogs to the rescue

Jumbo and Harry are brothers. These two cuddly golden retrievers regularly visit the Small Animal Hospital at Chulalongkorn Universitys Faculty of Veterinary Science, for vaccinations or to see a veterinarian.

But today, their owners want them to participate in the hospitals canine blood donor programme.

Dogs get sick, and supplies of dogs blood may be scarcer than human blood, Chalita Tantayanon, the dogs owner said.

If you want to help out by donating your dogs blood, be sure that it is healthy and weighs at least 20 kilogrammes.

Suwarat Wadeerat, the veterinarian in charge of the project, said that the dog should also receive regular health care for major diseases. Your dog must also be free of fleas and ticks.

Normally, dogs do not give more than the equivalent of 10 percent of their total blood or 8 percent of their body weight. In either case, donations should not exceed 350 millilitres.
