HM the King

Father of Thailand

By Tatat Bunnag

People of Thailand show their love for the King

December 5 is the day we celebrate Fathers Day in Thailand. Its also the birthday of His Majesty the King, who Thai people regard as father to the entire nation.

We bless and honour our Nai Luang a wonderful, kind and intelligent monarch who cares deeply for his people and initiates many royal projects around the country to improve peoples standard of living.

This year is very special its the Kings 80th birthday. It will be one of the largest celebrations Thailand has seen for many years.

Huge crowds of people are expected to throng Sanam Luang, Ratchadamnoen Avenue and public spaces all around the country to pay homage to their beloved King holding candles and portraits of the King and singing songs to wish him a very happy birthday.

Thai people have been very concerned for the Kings health lately. We were all glad when His Majesty was recently released from hospital and happy that he has had a speedy recovery from his illness.

Student Weekly asked some famous and not-so-famous people in Thailand to express their outpouring of love, concern and respect for the nations No. 1 father. Long live the King!

There is no one particular reason why I love His Majesty the King. Since I was born, I have always seen the King working so hard. We can see royal projects everywhere in the kingdom.

I would like His Majesty the King to stay healthy. I believe that even when he isnt feeling well, he keeps working. I would like the King to have plenty of rest.
