Amulet craze contrary to Buddhism

Jatukarm Ramathep is the latest craze for amulet enthusiasts across the country.

The Jatukarm Ramathep talisman craze is contrary to the Lord Buddha�s teachings, famed monk Phra Maha Wudhijaya Vajiramedhi said on May 26.

He blamed the media and monks for fuelling the amulet fever.

�The right way to make a living is to use our brains and two hands, not a talisman,� Phra Maha Wudhijaya said.

Cheating at university on the rise

Thammasat University officials say that increasing numbers of students are cheating their way to university degrees, with a sharp rise in exam cheating and plagiarism.

�It is worrying that most students who cheated on exams think that cheating is normal,� law lecturer Somkiat Worapanyaanan said. �It never occurred to them that what they did is wrong.�

He said that students sometimes copy papers with only the covers changed. In many cases, cheating students hired professional writers to do the work.

Thaksin�s bag stolen at McDonald�s

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra�s suitcase was stolen while he was eating at a McDonald�s in Moscow, reports said on May 24.

Inside the suitcase was his passport, cash and a camera. The bag and its contents were worth a total of 1.2 million baht.

Thaksin reported the loss to a police station before applying for a new passport at the Thai embassy.
