Taq changes his tune

The media have recently dubbed Parunyoo Rojanawoditham (Taq) a bad boy because of his tendency to give abrupt and seemingly sarcastic answers to interview questions. Thats probably not a fair label.

Once you get to know him, its clear that the 22-year-old actor-turned-singer is simply a straightforward guy whos always honest about his feelings and opinions and doesnt mince words.

• Did you know •
Taqs father named him after a tractor that was parked in front of the house when Taq was born.

In the middle of last year, the straight-talking Chiang Mai native faced a difficult time when his romantic relationship with VJ and actress Pitta Na Pattalung came to a very public end. Instead of wallowing in sorrow and self-pity, Taq chose to channel his energy into music and the brand-new EP, Taq.

Student Weekly recently caught up with Taq to find out about his foray into music and what its like not having a special someone in his life.

>> Student Weekly: Youve been acting for years. What made you decide to branch out into the music business?

<< Taq: I came to this company [RS Promotion] because I wanted to be a singer. But I got a chance to try acting first. Now the times right.

>> Student Weekly: A few weeks ago, before you released your debut effort, you were asked about your music. You didnt want to talk about it. Why was that?

<< Taq: I wanted my album to hit the stores first. I didnt want to guarantee anything because my album was still in the works. It would have looked stupid if the record hadnt come out like Id said it would.

>> Student Weekly: You also have a new look to go along with your new career. How do you feel about your haircut?

<< Taq: I didnt come up with this hairstyle. I like it though. It looks different.

>> Student Weekly: One song is titled Lerg Kub Kao Aow Tao Rai [How Much Do You Want to Break up With Him?]. Did the inspiration for that song come from your real life?

<< Taq: Lets just say that every one of the songs came out of my own experience. The songwriters wrote the lyrics based on the stories that I told them especially the things that happened during last year.

>> Student Weekly: Did you intend the song to be a message to your ex?

<< Taq: No, no, no. The song is for everyone whos had that kind of experience. Shes seeing a good guy now, and I dont want her to break up with anyone.

>> Student Weekly: Did you take part in any aspect of the music-making process other than singing?

<< Taq: I didnt contribute that much. Ive just started. I dont think its appropriate to meddle in the process because I dont know much about the music biz yet.

>> Student Weekly: How is singing different from acting?

<< Taq: Singing is quite hard for me. You have to express your own feelings. But when you act, you play somebody else. Its not who you are.

>> Student Weekly: Film is a good friend of yours. Does he ever give you any advice about singing?

<< Taq: I havent talked to him lately because hes so busy. Anyway, he listened to my album and said that

its cool.

>> Student Weekly: Which song would you recommend to people whod like to get to know you?

<< Taq:Puchai Krai Bog Mai Ngao [Who Says Guys Dont Feel Lonely?]. Its the most difficult song in the album to sing. Its hard to express a mood thats somewhere between happiness and sadness.

Id like girls to know that even though guys look strong and tough, they sometimes feel lonely and need somebody, too.

>> Student Weekly: Does that mean that you need somebody right now?

<< Taq: [Laughs.] I dont want anybody right now. Im occupied with loads of work. But I am really lonely.

>> Student Weekly: So, what do you do to relieve your loneliness?

<< Taq: I go back home to visit my mom and dad.

>> Student Weekly: What are your hopes for this album?

<< Taq: I dont have any. Im like a baby learning how to walk. This is just my first step. I know Im gonna face lots of barriers. Some people like the idea of me being a singer some dont.

>> Student Weekly: So, what do you like best acting, hosting or singing?

<< Taq: Ive tried lots of things, but I cant tell yet. Right now Im a singer, but I havent had a chance to go on tour or anything. Wait for a while, and well see. Id like to find out, too.
