Many unhappy with taxi drivers
Authorities are being flooded with complaints about taxi drivers, with refusing to take passengers topping the list of grievances.
About 15,000 complaints were made over the 1584 hotline during the past six months. The most common complaint, with 5,315 people phoning the hotline, was taxi drivers refusing to take them to their destinations, Land Transport Department chief Asdsathai Rattanadilok Na Phuket said on July 25.
Other complaints included being rude to passengers, driving carelessly, not driving passengers to the correct destinations and not using their meters.
Tainted oil
Officials give food warning
Recycled cooking oil, sometimes tainted with bleach, is on sale at many open markets, an expert has warned.
Many consumers are tricked into buying the oils through packaging which often resemble well-known brands. However, some of the oil is recycled material and has been treated with bleach to make it look more attractive to consumers, according to Udon Thani medical official Worawit Kittiwongsunthorn.
“Used cooking oil contains cancer-causing substances,” he said at a food and health conference in Nonthaburi on July 25.
