Located in Myanmar’s new capital city Nay Pyi Taw, the spectacular Uppatasanti Pagoda stands out among the thousands of other pagodas in the country.

This week’s Freeze Frame explores the elegance of this famous pagoda.

Constructed between 2006 and 2009, the Uppatasanti Pagoda is a replica of the 99-metre Shwedagon Pagoda, which is situated in the former capital of Yangon.

Above the main hall display are beautifully decorated boards with messages from Buddhist teachings in both Burmese and English.

The pagoda wall is surrounded by sculptures presenting historical information about important Buddhist events, such as the Birth of the Future Buddha in the Lumbini Grove.

Near the pagoda is a rare white elephant farm, where visitors can take photos and make donations for their food.

The inner area is for males only to pray and worship. This zone houses several sacred Buddha images.
