Strong storm

Bad weather hits Chiang Rai

A villager was wounded when the roof of a petrol station fell as a storm hit three districts in Chiang Rai on March 26.

The villager rushed to seek refuge at the petrol station in Thoeng district, but the roof caved in, injuring the villager. Five petrol pumps and three parked motorcycles were also damaged, according to witnesses.

The storm also caused widespread damage to more than 1,000 houses in the area.

Carbon free

Friendly products labelled

Twelve local products were recently given a carbon label in a new scheme to certify that production processes are environmentally friendly.

The Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation launched the carbon label on March 28 to encourage manufacturers to adopt green technology and cut carbon emissions.

The 12 carbon-labelled products include dried strawberries, cement, artificial wood, ceramics, food, beverages and condoms.

Government wants people to read

The government wants Thai people to read more. They will encourage reading with their new Bookstart project.

The programme will be launched on April 2 to celebrate the 54th birthday of the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The Princess is a book lover and has written several books herself.
