Love triangle
Young stars talk about love
Did you know
On March 14, Japanese men are expected to give gifts to girls who give them chocolate on Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day is time to celebrate love, and Thai teen couples love to embrace the occasion with big bouquets of flowers and bountiful boxes of chocolates.
To celebrate this year's upcoming Valentine's Day on February 14, Student Weekly recently met up with 21-year-old Neko Jump twins Charattha Imraporn (Jam) and Warattha Imraporn (Noey), who are currently promoting their dance track "Kae Thoe Bang Kap (Just Make Me)." To get a male perspective on the day of love, we also met with 20-year-old Rookie BB member Sittha Sapanuchart (Iang), whose group recently released their popular ballad, "Ying Khai, Ying Khay (The Closer We Get, the More I Feel Far Away)."
The guy and girls told us about their past Valentine's Day experiences and gave some advice about how to approach the one you secretly have a crush on.
Student Weekly: Is Valentine's Day important to you?
Jam: It was important to me during junior high school. It's a pleasant day when people give one another gifts and chocolate. It's lovely, but I don't really care about it anymore.
Noey: I enjoy festive occasions, so I like Valentine's Day. The atmosphere is nice because there are flowers and adorable gifts everywhere. I usually buy my friends some sweets.
Iang: If I don't have a girlfriend at the time, Valentine's Day means nothing to me. But if I have a girlfriend or a crush, I always buy her a gift.
Student Weekly: What has been your most memorable Valentine's Day?
Jam: One year, all my close friends had boyfriends and received huge bouquets, while I had no boyfriend and didn't receive a single gift. I felt annoyed! But in the evening, my mother bought me flowers and chocolate.
Noey: At junior high school, I received lots of gifts on Valentine's Day. I felt popular! [Laughs.]
Iang: When I was an exchange student in the US, I was surprised to see how seriously my classmates took Valentine's Day. They bought flowers and carried signs confessing their crushes. I felt lonely because I didn't get any gifts, so my mom sent me some chocolate from Thailand.
Student Weekly: How do your parents feel when you go out on a date?
Jam: Our parents always know who Noey and I are involved with. We never keep it a secret, so they don't worry about us.
Iang: My mom used to be very strict. I had to date a girl secretly and I couldn't give her my home number. Fortunately, when I came back from the US I was more mature, so my mom isn't so strict anymore.
Student Weekly: Would it bother you if your date was a big fan of another singer?
Iang: It would be fine if she acted crazy about another artist while I wasn't around. But if she went on about them while I was there, I'd feel like I was being ignored.
Noey: I'd be OK if he went to her concert, but I couldn't take it if he was obsessed about another female singer.
Jam: I wouldn't mind if he liked another singer. But if he was obsessed and collected everything about her, I'd leave and let him live in his fantasy world.
Student Weekly: What would you say to somebody who wants to tell their crush how they feel on Valentine's Day?
Iang: Do it yourself. Don't ask somebody else to do it for you. Just bring a small gift, like a card or a nice handmade present. Being shy can be cute, too.
Jam: Guys should talk to girls themselves, and they should mean what they say. A gift isn't important, but it might make the girl feel more excited.
Noey: You should speak sweetly to the girl you like. Try to surprise her.
One morning at school, after standing for the national anthem, a boy grabbed the microphone from a teacher and told my friend that he liked her. That was unforgettable!
The flowers and heart-shaped pillow were provided by Paragon Department Store.
