Letter of the week

BEAUTY STANDARDS

Most fashion magazines indicate to the world that beauty is just seen and judged by appearance. Does this mean that people with dark skin are valued less than light-skinned people for the rest of their lives?

I think we should be more careful about judging others. Looks are not as important as a person's kindness, which can't be seen externally.

Teera Siribunsuk,
Bangkok

I completely agree, Teera. I think that there is far too much emphasis put on external appearances. Remember, though, that when you're looking at fashion magazines, you're looking at people who are professional models. They make money with their looks. They're genetically gifted, spend more time dieting and exercising than a regular person has time for, and they get a lot of help from Photoshop retouching and tons of camera tricks. If you try to hold yourself up to those impossible beauty standards, you're wasting your time and causing yourself unnecessary stress and unhappiness. — Editor

APPLE A DAY

Last week I went to see the doctor, and he gave me advice about the "Three Gs." He said that I should eat three Gs to stay healthy.

The first G is garlic. It can reduce your cholesterol.

The second G is green tea. It has a lot of vitamin C.

The third G is green apples. My doctor said that they have substances that help keep skin flexible.

Supoj Jaraswimol,
Rayong

That sounds like good advice, Supoj. A lot of what keeps us healthy is simply a good diet. Lots of fresh vegetables and fruit are important to feeing and looking good for years to come. Thanks for the tips. — Editor

LAND OF ENCHANTMENT

Why do so many tourist come to Thailand? Because Thailand is the most interesting country in the world, and each region of Thailand is unique.

The North has cold temperatures and lots of mountains. The most famous of them is Doi Inthanon, which has a gorgeous temple on top of it.

The Central region has a temple that most people adore. It is Wat Prakaew, the most beautiful and biggest temple in Thailand.

The South has many islands and beaches, such as Pi Pi. It is the Emerald of the Andaman.

The Northeast has many natural parks and is a destination for eco-tourism and excursions where people can enjoy nature.

Apinya Wattanakitja,
Udon Thani

You sound like you're proud of your country, Apinya. You have every right to be. Thailand has a lot of great places and things to see. It also has a lot of friendly people. It's certainly a country that I've enjoyed travelling through. — Editor
