Located in the Pacific Ocean, Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands in South America are famous as a top tourist destination. The islands are full of scenic sights and are home to a large number of wildlife species.

For this week’s Freeze Frame, SW explores some of the natural wonders of the Galapagos Islands.

Scuba-divers around Galapagos Islands don’t need to fear the sharks in the sea, as they normally prey on fish and sea lions.

Marine iguanas gather on rocks to search for food.

Parts of the Galapagos Islands are covered with interesting and colourful tropical plants and flora.

Sea lions can often be found in the sea around the islands.

A visitor takes a photo of a rare hawk found on the islands.
