Desktop Error may not be too well known to Thai listeners familiar with mainstream rock, but since the release of their first post-rock EP and their debut album, Ticket to Home, the band has gained a strong and loyal following in the local indie music scene.
The band’s first album featured a winning blend of alternative rock, post-rock, shoegaze and folk, and Keep Looking at the Window continues to develop that combination.
As with most shoegaze music, the lead vocals on this album are buried in the mix until they become like just another instrument in the band. This is an unusual sound for a local rock band, and it helps to make Desktop Error stand out from the crowd.
The first track on this album, “Kun Jae Pee (Pass Key),” is a bluesy rock song that uses the sound of Thai stringed folk instruments to make it unique. Another highlight on this album is “Kwan Jang Lar (Goodbye Smoky),” a catchy song with great coordination between the three guitars in the band.
Listeners who are bored of mainstream rock and who would like to try something new won’t be disappointed if they check out Desktop Error’s Keep Looking at the Window. — VH
