SOCIAL STUDIES
Im 10 years old, and Ive been reading Student Weekly since last year.
None of my friends like school, but I do.
I like the school library because it has lots of books, and it is a very interesting place. When Im at home, Ive got nobody to play with, so I feel lonely. But when I go to school, Ive got many friends to play with.
Its nearly the end of the term now, and Im going to miss school.
Thornthun Kitjasateanphun Bangkok
Its good to hear from somebody who likes school so much, Thornthun. Theres no reason to feel lonely when youre not in school. Try making friends in your neighbourhood. There might be other kids out there who want to meet new people. Also, start making plans to meet up with some of your school friends during the term break. Arrange play dates and meetings with your pals, and get to know them off campus. If all else fails, I suggest getting a dog its hard to feel lonely or unhappy when youve got a dog. Editor
LANGUAGE BARRIER
Im Air, and Im 16 years old and in grade 11 at Saithammachan School in Ratchaburi. I want to talk about English grammar in grade 11.
When I was in grade 10, I liked to study English very much. English was easier than the other subjects, and I always got good grades. But in grade 11, English is too hard much harder than before.
I try to learn in my free time. I often sing songs in English, and I read Student Weekly. My favourite column is the quiz. The quiz tells me about myself.
One day I hope to understand English perfectly and to be able to write good sentences.
Do you have any advice for me?
Atitaya Janejobkhet, Ratchaburi
It sounds like youre already doing great, Air. You seem motivated to learn and are doing things on your own time that will help you to improve your English. Remember that even a favourite subject can sometimes become difficult. English was always one of my best subjects, but when I studied grammar during my freshman year in high school, I had a really tough time. That didnt last forever, though. After that one semester of struggling and hating English, it once again became one of my favourites after that brief rocky patch. Stick with it and stay motivated. Good luck. Editor
FUN LEARNING
Some people think that learning is boring and that when they grow up, what they learn wont be important to them anymore. I think that its very fun to learn. I want to learn everything I can.
Students should think about what subject is interesting to them. Then they will be happy learning it. I think that this strategy will lead to success.
Its not necessary that things you learn must come from books. There are many ways to learn, such as travelling, watching TV and reading newspapers.
I think that learning is important and not boring at all.
Parin Jeeranun, Bangkok.
Thanks for those great words of advice, Parin. Youve hit the nail on the head learning shouldnt be limited to the classroom. I think that learning outside of class is actually a lot more fun. You get to find out about things that really interest you things that might not be covered in school. Editor
