Recognised as the southernmost part of the People’s Republic of China, Yunnan’s Jinghong City has plentiful natural resources and has certain cultural similarities with northern Thailand.

For this week’s Freeze Frame, SW takes a look at some of the most popular spots in and around Jinghong.

Travellers can watch traditional dance and see costumes from ethnic groups living in Yunnan at Paranasi Theatre in Jinghong City.

Murals at Ban Tiw Temple are painted in a style similar to those seen at Buddhist temples in the north of Thailand.

One of the best known religious places in Yunnan is Luang Temple, which is situated on a hill overlooking Jinghong.

Visitors can enjoy scenic views while feeding peacocks at Xishuangbanna Primeval Forest Park.

In central Jinghjong, houses have been built in a unique style, with sharply pitched roofs covered with terracotta tiles.

More beautiful views can be seen from Highway G213, which connects Jinghong with the Mohan checkpoint on the border of China and Laos.

On the outskirts of Jinghong is Baojiao Cave. A subterranean stream runs through the spectacular cave.
