Did you know

Last year, Hyun Joong sang at the Asian Games in Guangzhou.

Since playing the lead character of Yoon Ji Hoo in the 2009 TV drama Boys Over Flowers, Kim Hyun Joong has become a big star throughout Asia. The following year, Hyun Joong starred in the romantic drama Playful Kiss, which attracted a million views on YouTube in just five days.

With his massive success, the 25-year-old star decided not to renew his contract with boy band SS501, opting to go solo instead. Hyun Joong's first solo album, Break Down, sold more than 100,000 copies in two weeks, while his singles "Break Down" and "Kiss Kiss" topped charts around Asia.

Hyun Joong recently came to Thailand to promote his album and to meet his fans at the High Five Party in Bangkok. Student Weekly went along to ask the K-pop star about his music and his latest visit to the Land of Smiles.

Question: When were you last in Thailand?

Hyun Joong: Last January I performed a concert here with SS501. I came alone this time, but I don't feel lonely. I feel great because so many fans have given me a warm welcome.

Question: Can you tell us about Break Down?

Hyun Joong: It's my first solo album. I produced the album and designed the logo as well. Aside from being a singer, I want people to see the other things that I do. I take my work very seriously, so I'm happy when fans give me a positive response.

Question: How do you feel about your first solo album?

Hyun Joong: I'm happy that my fans have accepted me as a solo artist. I want to thank them for not forgetting me. I'm also proud of the whole team who worked on this album.

Question: Why did you decide to use pictures of your fans in the video for "Kiss Kiss"?

Hyun Joong: I could never have come this far without their support. I'll continue to do great work in the future.

Question: Since Playful Kiss has been so popular, do you plan to act in another TV drama?

Hyun Joong: I want to concentrate on promoting my album at the moment. I plan to tour Asia, starting this December. But I might work on a new TV drama next year.

Question: Do you have any special message for your Thai fans?

Hyun Joong: I haven't been here for a long time, but my fans still pay attention to my work. I'm so grateful for that. I'm sorry that I didn't prepare to perform any songs for this visit, but I'm glad to meet everybody here. Please don't miss my tour when it hits Thailand!
