Crayon Pop raise the bar
Crayon Pop
The Streets Go Disco
BEC Tero Music
Crayon Pop are a K-pop quintet who recently launched their debut EP, The Streets Go Disco. The group’s first single “Bing Bing” was released in versions sung in both Korean and Japanese, but it failed to attract much attention or to stand out from all the other generic K-pop songs.
However, Crayon Pop soon bounced back with the catchy dance song “Bar Bar Bar,” which quickly became a hit with both Korean and international pop fans. Apart from the song’s catchy tune, the music video features the girls wearing cute matching helmets and tracksuits as they jump around in time with the simple beat.
With the great success of “Bar Bar Bar,” Crayon Pop were invited to open for superstar Lady Gaga on for upcoming North American tour.
The rest of The Streets Go Disco is all about having fun, with the lyrics of “Dancing Queen” and “Saturday Night” about enjoying the weekend. The EP includes four songs altogether, with two different versions of each song featured.
Crayon Pop have done a good job with The Streets Go Disco. The group seems to focus more on simple fun, rather than trying to be too cute or sexy like most K-pop girl groups. Fans of fun teen pop shouldn’t miss out on hearing this release. — HN
