Study finds nurses under pressure
The quality of health among nurses is lower than that among women in other professions and poor working conditions are driving many to quit nursing, a study has found.
The study was released on February 5 by the Nurses’ Association of Thailand and researchers for the Thai Nurse Cohort Study project which looked into various aspects of the profession between 2009 and 2014.
Krisada Sawaengdee, who led the project and is the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s vice-president, said the study rated Thai nurses’ health quality at 0.75 out of a possible top score of 1. Women working in other professions were rated 0.95.

Train carriage hits buffers
A freight car ploughed into buffers at Hua Lamphong railway station damaging the track at one platform on February 5. Nobody was injured.
The incident occurred at around 8 am when an empty passenger carriage came loose from a train and crashed into a parked freight car, propelling it into track buffers at the No. 12 platform. The passenger carriage was being pulled into service at the time.
A faulty coupling was blamed for setting the passenger carriage loose, according to State Railway of Thailand official Pornsuthi Thongsard.

Going for gold
Robbery suspects arrested
Two men were arrested for stealing gold. It happened in Pathum Thani on February 3. The suspects stole 14 kilogrammes of gold ornaments from a gold company. Police found the ornaments at the suspects’ house. They were worth more than 20 million baht.
