Sinking boat

Permission to party

Full moon event allowed

Organisers were told by the army that the June 12 full moon party on Koh Phangan could ahead as planned.

Koh Phangan acting district chief Kasidet Thongchu was informed on June 6 by the Surat Thani Army District that the party could be held as the monthly event has nothing to do with politics or activities that might violate orders of the National Council for Peace and Order.

The Tourism Promotion Association on Koh Phangan and local hotel operators earlier sent a letter to the Surat Thani Army District seeking permission to hold the party.


Power problems

Southern provinces told to prepare

Residents in the South of Thailand were warned to prepare for possible blackouts during a 28-day shutdown of the Thailand-Malaysia Joint Development Area (JDA) in the Gulf of Thailand.

The maintenance, scheduled to start on June 13, will interrupt the supply of 11.9 million cubic metres of gas per day. This may disrupt the power supply in 14 southern provinces during peak hours from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

Authorities warned the public to make preparations and store necessities for possible blackouts during the maintenance period.

Illegal games

Gambling machines seized

Police seized illegal slot machines. It happened at a house in Bang Khen, Bangkok on June 8. There were about 286 illegal machines at the house. The machines were to be used for gambling during the FIFA World Cup.
