NCPO wants agricultural zones
The National Council for Peace and Order wants government agencies to push forward plans to zone the country’s agricultural areas to avoid crop oversupply and improve soil quality.
NCPO chairman Prayuth Chan-ocha instructed agencies on August 5 to accelerate zoning plans, which he believes will effectively combat oversupply of certain crops, including rice and rubber. Alternative crops farmers could grow include tapioca and maize, NCPO spokesman Winthai Suwari said.
The Interior Ministry has been assigned to survey irrigated and non-irrigated zones in each province to determine which crops are best suited for each area.

Expensive drugs made available
Four expensive medicines for breast cancer, hepatitis C and leukemia have been added to the national drug lists. The decision will improve access to the drugs for universal healthcare scheme members, especially low-income patients.
The National Health Security Office board, chaired by Charan Trinwuthipong, on August 5 approved the inclusion on the list of Trastuzumab for treatment of the early stages of breast cancer, and Peginterferon for hepatitis C treatment in HIV-infected people. Nilotinub and Dasatinib for leukemia treatment were also included.

Fatal fall
Police investigating death
A Japanese woman fell from a condominium. It happened in the Thong Lor area of Bangkok on August 5. She fell from the 28th floor. The 59-year-old woman lived with her American husband. Police were investigating the incident.
