Drama/Romance: RAISE YOUR VOICE (October 21, 2004) Hillary Duff plays Terri Fletcher, star of a small-town church choir and a girl with a special gift: she can transform herself into a tree at will. Were joking, of course; really, she has an amazing voice, which youd probably expect from a choir member. Anyway, a surprise acceptance to a summer study programme at the countrys most prestigious music school in Los Angeles is both an honour and a problem for Terri. Her strict father is absolutely against it, but Terri decides she has to go for it, and with the secret help of her mom and aunt, Terri heads for LA. Great reviews mean this is a term-break must for Duff fans and hopeless dreamers.

Romance/Comedy: A CINDERELLA STORY (October 21, 2004) Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff, again) lives at the beck and call of her stepmother Fiona (Jennifer Coolidge) and her wicked stepsisters. Sam finds her less-than-sparkling social life wonderfully complicated when she meets her prince charming online. But when her cyber soulmate turns out to be her high schools popular quarterback Austin Ames (Chad Michael Murray), Sam makes a mad dash back to reality, leaving her mobile phone behind just before the clock strikes midnight. Lame reviews mean that the Duff brand isnt always a stamp of quality.

Horror: THE TOOLBOX MURDERS (September 23, 2004) New to Los Angeles, Nell (Angela Bettis) and Steven Barrow (Brent Roam) rent an apartment. Built in the 1940s, this luxurious hotel was once a playground for the rich and famous in Hollywoods heyday. Later it fell on bad times, but now the old building is being restored to its former glory. But renovating the building has brought out a supernatural horror, and hes picking off the residents one by one. Then Nell starts hearing strange noises and noticing things she cant explain. And who is the old man in the laundry room who seems to know pieces of the Lusmans sordid past? Presumably a murderer with a toolbox.

Horror: ANACONDAS: THE HUNT FOR THE BLOOD ORCHID (October 21, 2004) Previewed in this issue.
