Music Sound CheckWhats spinning this week Sane With their chart-topping debut single Rak Khan Hai Dee (Please Love Each Other) and All 4 One-style black leather jackets, Sane have tried to position themselves an R&B act. Theres just one problem: Their album, Sound of Sanity, sounds more like easy-listening pop than soulful funk. Out of the 11 tracks, Regretful, the track Sane penned on their own, is the most disappointing. The song is a clear mix of All 4 Ones I Swear and Britney Spears From the Bottom of My Broken Heart literally. If you were to check the lyrics of all three songs, youd have to be deaf to not notice the similarities. Thankfully, the rest of the tracks on the album are listenable. The mellow Kham Kham Diaw (Only One Word) and the catchy Eek Nit Nueng (Just A While Longer) are definitely the standout tracks. All in all, Sound of Sanity is a listenable pop effort that does a good job of blending sweet ballads with funky, hip-hop infused beats. Nuttaporn Srisirirungsimakul Dream, Mandy and Palm OK, lets get one thing straight right off: I dont like girly girl music and I have no idea why I even thought of reviewing this CD. But, alas, I did, and it was a big mistake. When We Want to be Project (what the title means is anyones guess) has 10 tracks from three new artists with different looks and personalities. The artist are presented as the pretty girl Dream, sporty girl Palm and cool girl Mandy (uh, sorry, no scary girl). So with three supposedly different personalities, you would expect three different styles of music, right? Wrong. I honestly couldnt distinguish any of the girls from the other without consulting the album cover. Like most project albums, When We Want to be Project is the introductory musical effort for the ladies before they launch their own albums. The only standout tracks are Dreams Phai Nai Hong Nan (In That Room), Mandys Krai Tee Ronghai (Whos Crying?) and Palms Kern Phor (More Than Enough). The rest of the songs are simply ordinary pop rock blended with some acoustic guitars and, sometimes, a hint of punk. If this album is any indication of the plans the girls have for their debut albums, it looks like they have a lot to work on. Nuttaporn Srisirirungsimakul Vocabulary listenable (adj): pleasant to listen to
