Fans of timeless tales like The Frog Prince and Beauty and the Beast are bound to enjoy Tukky's Diary, the latest Sahamongkol Film International comedy, due to hit cinemas on July 22.
Directed by Pornchai Hongrattanaporn, Tukky's Diary is a funny fairy tale featuring frogs and a team of top comedians.
Thailand's hottest female comedian Sudarat Butrprom (Tukky) plays the lead role of an unattractive frog vendor who happens to be the long-lost princess of a land called Padangrawee. Tukky becomes the new hope of the people of Padangrawee, especially when she falls in love with her handsome helper Aob, played by 28-year-old charmer Louis Scott.
Student Weekly recently caught up with Tukky and Louis at the Tukky's Diary press conference for an exclusive interview about the film.
Student Weekly: Can you tell us about your characters in the movie?
Tukky: I play two characters in the film. The first is a frog vendor at a market, and the other one is beautiful princess Tukky from Padangrawee.
Louis: I play a grim bodyguard named Aob, who has three subordinates under him named Sebastian, Christopher and Alexander. They're all cool names, so I don't know why I was given the name Aob! [Laughs.]
Student Weekly: Did you have to do much to prepare for your roles?
Louis: Not much. Aob's character is serious all the time. He isn't very friendly or funny, so it was a difficult character to play. It was hard to stay cool and quiet when I was surrounded by funny comedians.
Tukky: Most actresses probably have to prepare a lot, making themselves pretty and putting on lots of make-up. But I didn't have to do anything like that at all. [Laughs.]
Student Weekly: Tukky, how does it feel to act in your first starring role?
Tukky: I was so excited when I heard that I'd be playing the lead role - especially when I found out I'd be playing a princess. I read the script again and again until I knew it by heart. I wanted the movie to be perfect.
Student Weekly: How did you guys feel about working together?
Tukky: I've been a big fan of Louis' ever since he was singing with the duo Raptor about 10 years ago. It was like a dream come true to be in a movie with him.
Louis: I'd met Tukky a few times, but I'd never had a chance to work with her before. She's is a nice person, very talented and full of energy. She's also very funny. I felt relaxed and happy working with her.
Student Weekly: Can you tell us about the love scene in Tukky's Diary?
Tukky: There's the scene where Aob kisses the princess on the cheek. I hope Louis' fans don't get too jealous. [Laughs.]
Louis: I hope all the guys won't be jealous too!
Student Weekly: Do you have any favourite scenes in the film?
Louis: The scene I love the most is when princess Tukky learns how to ride a horse. She tries to balance on the horse but she keeps falling off. It's the most hilarious thing I've ever seen.
Tukky: I love most of the scenes in the movie. There's one scene that l like the most, but I can't tell you about it now because it's a surprise!
