Hello pretty

Four Mod meet and greet

By Suwitcha Chaiyong

• Did you know •
Four's dad calls her Yuki, which means snow in Japanese.

Pretty pop duo Four Mod hardly need an introduction. The girls - Sakonrut Woraurai (Four), 24 and Napapat Wattanakamonwut (Mod), 19 - recently returned to the charts with their cheerful single "Love Villa."

As soon as listeners were familiar with "Love Villa," Four Mod followed it up with the equally successful ballad "Jeb Prok Khao Ngao Prok Thoe (Hurt Because of Him, Lonely Because of You)."

Student Weekly recently caught up with Four Mod at the RS office, where the girls told us about their favourite gadget, how they deal with bad hair days and about their latest album, Hello Four Mod.

Student Weekly: How did you come up with the album title Hello Four Mod?

Mod: It's been a year since we released our last album, We Will Love U. We just wanted to greet our fans and say hello.

Student Weekly: It sounds like a telephone greeting. Can you ever leave home without your mobile phone?

Mod: I can't. We both use Blackberry phones and I'm totally addicted to mine!

Four: It's a useful device. We can keep in touch by chatting with people that we haven't seen for a long time or with friends who are overseas.

Student Weekly: What do you think about people who can never put their Blackberry down?

Mod: It depends on the situation. People shouldn't use their phone when they're in a meeting or at the cinema. But it's OK during their private time or when they're hanging out with friends.

Four: People who play with their phone all the time might have low self-esteem, like me. Sometimes I keep looking at my Blackberry and I feel insecure if nobody contacts me.

Student Weekly: Do you ever worry about the feedback you'll get when you release a new single?

Four: Yes. People expect something good from us. Before a new song is officially released, I always let my friends and family hear it and give us feedback. But we have faith in our producer because we've worked together for a long time.

Student Weekly: How do you manage to perform when you're sick or having a bad day?

Mod: If we have a sore throat, we just drink warm water. We've been in showbiz for a long time, so we know what to do and what not to do onstage.

However we're feeling on the day, our job is to entertain the audience and have fun with them.

Student Weekly: "Love Villa" is quite similar to the Black Eyed Peas song "My Hump." Was that intentional?

Mod: We're just singers. We don't choose or produce our own songs. Our producer Afu Narongsak and the executives at our label produce and manage the songs for us, so you should ask our label that kind of question. We can't answer it.

Student Weekly: Do you talk about your songs before recording them?

Four: We tell our producer what kind of music we like. I told him that I like bossa nova music, so we might include that style on the album.

Mod: I like slow songs with piano. Singing slow songs is challenging because you have to express your inner feelings.

Student Weekly: Where would you like to have your dream villa?

Four: It would be on a quiet and isolated beach. I like privacy.

Mod: I'd also want a private place. It would be great to go to the Maldives. I love the quiet beaches and crystal clear water there.

Student Weekly: Is there any other kind of work you like apart from singing?

Four: I love acting. I enjoyed making the TV drama Sedthee Khang Khiang (Pot-Stewed Duck Business). We shot in many provinces during the eight months of filming. The locations included lots of markets and duck coops. It was tiring, but challenging in a good way.

Mod: I'm not good at acting like Four, but I'd like to try being a model on the catwalk.
