Crime and punishment
Russian stabs dog
On October 7, Pattaya police arrested a Russian man who allegedly killed a pit bull terrier three months ago.
Alexander Ponomarev, 30, was taken into custody after a local animal rights group lodged a complaint with police about the death of a seven-year-old male pit bull owned by Duangporn Sabua.
The alleged incident took place on July 9 while Duangporn walked her dog past a restaurant near Jomtien Beach. The Russian allegedly stabbed the dog to death and fled the scene.
Weather woes
Dust and rain delay flights
Haze and heavy rainfall caused delays and immediate destination changes to 16 flights at four southern airports on October 7 as levels of dust particles remain dangerously high in Phuket.
The haze, blown from Sumatra Island, is still raising health concerns, though in six southern provinces the threat was starting to diminish.
Most air traffic disruptions occurred at Phuket Airport, with nine delayed landings, two planes diverted to other airports and another two forced to turn back.
