Enroling for exams

Enrolling for exams
Students flock to Kasetsart University to apply for the entrance examination.

The Cabinet recently approved the Education Ministry's formula for a single entrance test, to be known as the national test, which will be used for students applying to 24 state universities in 2006.

Some students fear the new university entry system will only cause stress and drive more students into tutorial schools, while some teachers say students may abandon the subjects outside the five required for the so-called national test.

There were also doubts about the chances of students from rural schools getting into universities when they are made to compete for the same exam as those in big cities, where the standard of education is higher.

The national test will bring to an end the entrance examinations and save Matayom 6 students from having to sit too many exams for a place in a university.
