SW explores a scenic city

Taiwan is located in eastern Asia and has a population of around 23 million people. The capitol city, Taipei, is famed for its large shopping malls and well-decorated trading centres. But outside the city, Taiwan boasts plentiful natural resources and beautiful historical places.

This week SW takes a look at some of Taiwan's popular tourist attractions.

One of the world’s tallest buildings, Taipei 101 is 508 metres tall. The tower resembles a giant glass pagoda.

The National Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall is a landmark of Taiwan. The famous monument was built between 1976 and 1980 in memory of Chiang Kai-Shek, former renowned president of the Republic China.

Jiufen is a vintage town where visitors can shop for local food and beverages.

Taroko National Park was established in 1937 when Taiwan was part of the Empire of Japan.

The National Palace Museum has a permanent collection of around 700,000 ancient Chinese artefacts and artworks.

Visitors can use cable car services to explore the tea growing areas in Maokong and also to view the night scenery of Taipei.

The Alishan Recreation area is surrounded by numerous mountains, scenic views and large green fields.

At Shilin Night Market, visitors can enjoy a variety of traditional food.
