Sound check Modern mixNew releases cover a broad spectrum Momokomotion Punk in a Coma is the first solo album from former Futon member Momoko. Its a great album that mixes 80s style electro sounds with unique and catchy songs. The album kicks off with the single Toy, which would make a great party track. The next song, Ask for the Moon is one of the best on the album, with a beautiful melody and great lyrics to match. Other highlights include Punk in a Coma, which features some nice dirty guitar from Momoko. Saturday Night has enough catchy hooks to become an underground pop classic, while All Apologies is a cool cover of the Nirvana song, translated into Japanese and given an experimental pop treatment reminiscent of Buffalo Daughter. The last couple of tracks, including the single Beautiful World, change the pace nicely with some guitar-driven indie pop. At 10 tracks, plus a bonus bedroom demo, Punk in a Coma is just the right length to hold your interest all the way through. It has a nice mix of electronic and live instrumentation to back Momokos distinctive voice, and great lyrics throughout. The CD cover stands out with original artwork by Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. Punk in a Coma would be perfect for your next party, and it also makes for great listening on its own. BE Various Artists This is another great compilation from RS music, full of love songs from various quality artists. Love Maker by am pm is a project put together by producers Mag and Ping, who have been working well together for a long time. One of the best tracks on the record is Sai Lom (Wind), sung by Jennifer Kim. Her delicate voice expresses the romantic atmosphere of the song well. Another highlight is Tang Tang Tee Roo (Already Know), an R&B ballad from Acappella 7 that uses a nice combination of piano, flute and harp. Fords hip-hop track Boxer contains a rap that Ford improvised himself. This track varies the albums formula nicely. If you like relaxing, easy listening love songs, then youre bound to dig this record. All the tracks are presented with a nice mix of musical sounds. VH Various Artists Bling is a compilation of 19 hits from famous hip-hop and R&B artists, including Akon, Nelly Furtado, Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Will.I.Am, Gwen Stefani and many more. Worldwide hits such as Clumsy by Fergie, Ayo Technology by 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake, and Umbrella by Rihanna and Jay-Z are featured. All of these artists are well known and their hits continue to inspire many new artists. Bling presents the songs in a well-chosen order, mixing old and new hits so that the listener can hear how hip- hop and R&B have developed in the US over the past few years. The best tracks on Bling are probably the most famous ones, but some of the lesser-known artists are bound to become very popular, judging by the songs featured here. The way this album alternates hip-hop with R&B works well and makes for a fun listening experience. RS
