Eric Bana began his career as a comedian on Australian television.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, The Finest Hours is an exciting action-packed thriller based on the true story of a daring rescue mission.

In 1952, a massive storm hits the New England area of the US, wreaking havoc on ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a large oil tanker bound for Boston. The tanker is ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside its sinking stern.

As the senior officer on board, Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) realises that it's up to him to take charge of the frightened crew and inspire the men to work together to survive the storm.

Meanwhile, as word of the disaster reaches a US Coast Guard station in Massachusetts, Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff (Eric Bana) orders a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Despite overwhelming odds, four men, led by Captain Bernie Webber (Chris Pine), set out in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little means of navigation, facing freezing temperatures, huge waves and hurricane-force winds.

Find out if the rescue mission succeeds when The Finest Hours hits local cinemas on January 28.
