Guns gone

Weapons stolen from storage

Dozens of weapons seized during criminal cases were stolen from a military court storage facility in Bangkok, authorities said on August 17.

Authorities were investigating the possible involvement of two army officers. Judge Advocate General Jira Komutpong insisted that the stolen weapons were not involved with recent cases of political unrest or the military’s recent raids to confiscate illegal weapons. He added that only about 40 guns had been stolen.

The court keeps weapons for a certain period in case they need to be re-investigated, Jira said.

Parking police

Cops to enforce regulations

All cars parked illegally in Bangkok will be wheel-clamped. The regulation was due to be strictly enforced from August 18, police said.

The campaign is part of the Royal Thai Police’s effort to reduce road accidents and ease traffic problems caused by illegal parking. It follows a campaign to crack down on drivers using mobile phones without hands-free devices, launched earlier in August, police said.
