Robert McCall (Washington) is a man who believes that he has put his mysterious past as a secret agent behind him to lead a quiet and peaceful life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of violent Russian gangsters, he feels that he must help her.
Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anybody who would brutalise the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened.
