Sudden suicide

Student plunges to his death

An undergraduate student fell to his death from a building at King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok in Bang Sue district on June 19.

He was identified as Natchaphol Saejia, 23, a fifth-year engineering student.

Local police, a forensic team from the Police General Hospital and rescue workers were alerted to the apparent suicide. The university student had seemingly jumped from the eighth floor. The police said he was under heavy stress due to his poor grades.

Thai camels free from MERS

The Livestock Development Department says it has tested camels extensively in the country and found them to be free from the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus.

The department has also ordered a ban on camel shipments from the Middle East as a precaution.

Department deputy chief Sorravis Thaneto said on June 19 that his scientists had been working closely with various experts to closely monitor MERS in animals, particularly camels, which are believed to be a main carrier of the virus.

Booze ban

Alcohol not sold near schools

The government has banned alcohol sales near schools. Authorities reported the news on June 18. Alcohol cannot be sold within 300 metres of schools and universities.
