Film gives Miss Thailand 24-hour trouble

No doubt about it, trendy and handsome 22-year-old Rattapoom Tokongsab (Film) is one of the most sought-after Thai superstars in music, television and movies. He began his career in showbiz a few years ago first acting, then taking the stage as a singer.

While he was working on his two successful albums, Film continued acting in several popular soap operas. But it was his starring role in the romantic movie Rak Jung (The Memory) last year that really catapulted the young heart-throb to stardom.

• Did you know •
Besides being Miss Thailand, Jeab is also a medical student at Mahidol University.

This year, Film returns to the silver screen in the highly anticipated romantic comedy Rak Na 24 Chua Mong (24-Hour Love). The movie also stars 19-year-old Miss Thailand Lalana Kongtoranin (Jeab) in her big-screen debut.

Despite the two stars hectic schedules, Student Weekly recently managed to catch up with them at RSs Avant movie company offices. Somebody must have leaked the news that Film and Jeab were in the building because we had to make our way through a throng of admirers who were hoping to catch a glimpse of them.

The stars told us about their new movie, the challenges of acting and training to work behind a convenience store counter.

>> Student Weekly: Film, this is the second movie youve made with Avant that has the word love in the title. Is that going to be the theme of all your movies with RS?

<< Film: Well, Im not sure about that. I think in this movie its probably because I was working with the same director and the same production team that made Rak Jung, which is really good. It feels like being home again when youre working with the same people.

>> Student Weekly: Can you guys tell us a little about the film and the characters that you play?

<< Film: My role in this one is really different from all the characters that

Ive played before. I play Ble, a normal guy whos living day-to-day working at 7-Eleven and also has a crush on his colleague.

Yes, it sounds normal, but Ble has a secret. He has two hearts. I mean two real hearts. He has two different people and two different personalities in the same body, which we called Ble A and Ble B. These two personalities switch every time Ble wakes up in the morning.

<< Jeab: I play Tor, a girl whos working with Ble. She is kind of his girlfriend, but his strange personality confuses her.

>> Student Weekly: Why does the movie take place in a 7-Eleven?

<< Film: It started right from the beginning. When we first wrote the plot for the film, we had to find a place where the lead actor and actress could spend 24 hours together. Thats why we picked 7-Eleven.

<< Jeab: We were trained for about a month on how to act like real 7-Eleven employees. We learned how to speak like them, put stuff in the bags and prepare hot dogs for the customers. It was really fun!

>> Student Weekly: Do you have any interesting or funny stories from the set?

<< Film: Yeah, most of the scenes from the movie take place on the 7-Eleven set. Sometimes when we were taking a break from filming, people who had no idea that the store wasnt a real store would come in and grab food and beer from the cabinets.

<< Jeab: They were completely embarrassed when they saw us behind the counter. [Laughs.]

>> Student Weekly: Film, did you have problems playing two different characters in the same movie?

<< Film: Totally. After I read the script the first time, I asked the director if I could take more acting classes. [Laughs.] I just wanted to make it look good. Im very lucky to have the opportunity to act in such a good role.

>> Student Weekly: Jeab, is there a big difference between being Miss Thailand and acting in a movie?

<< Jeab: Well, I dont feel that theres too much difference. I dont feel like Miss Thailand every day anyway. Acting was difficult because it was my first movie, and I wanted to do my best. All the scenes were challenging for me.

>> Student Weekly: How was working with a heart-throb like Film?

<< Jeab: Honestly, I was so excited when I first learned that I got this role. It was shocking to realise that I would be working with Film. To me, he was like a big, big star. It sounded almost impossible!

When I first meet him, he was really friendly and sweet. He didnt act like a snobby pop star at all. Hes nice to everyone, and he loves his fans so much.

>> Student Weekly: Speaking of Films fans, you saw that theres a group of fans that follows him everywhere he goes. Now youre playing his girlfriend. Do the fans ever give you any problems?

<< Jeab: Not at all. All of his fans are really nice. They only want to be near their favourite actor, thats all. Its wonderful.

When they realised that I was in the movie with Film, they were really nice to me, too. They always bought me snacks or bottles of water while we were taking breaks from shooting the movie. Lucky me!
