Letter of the week

TICKET TO RIDE

The letter you recently published about the kind bus conductor in Thailand (the issue of July 13, 2015 — Ed.) reminded me to write this letter.

I'm studying in New Zealand, and every day I have to take the bus to the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT). After standing in line, people have to get on the bus through the front door and get off the bus through the back door. There is no conductor on the bus to check tickets. You have to touch your travel card on a card reader near the bus driver then find a seat. And don't forget to say hello to the driver!

This is one of the more unforgettable experiences I've had in New Zealand, both in and out of class.

Supoj Jaraswimol,
Rayong

Thanks for your letter, Supoj. One of the interesting things about visiting other countries is seeing the different ways that people do the same daily routines. As you've noticed, just a little thing like catching a bus can be an eye-opening adventure when you do it in an unfamiliar place. — Editor

HOT TOPIC

It seems to be hotter than ever in Bangkok these days. Maybe it's because the rainy season still hasn't started. Also, the air conditioner in my house is broken, so that doesn't help! I turn on the fan at night, but it's so noisy that it keeps me awake. I hope we can get our air con fixed soon and that the weather starts to cool down.

Benz,
via email

I agree Benz, it does seem to have been hotter than usual lately. I had some trouble with my air con recently too, and my flat was like a sauna, even with the fan on and the window open. Hopefully we'll get some real rain soon, both to cool down the temperature and to stop the dams from running completely dry. — Editor

COOL CONCERT

I’m 22-years-old, and I recently went to my first concert. The duo Twenty One Pilots performed in Bangkok for the first time, and I went to their show.

One of the members of Twenty One Pilots had a throat infection and they had to cancel a concert in another country. I was worried about it. However, they recovered in time to perform in Thailand.

My friends and I went to the show and it was very amusing and amazing. We jumped around and put our hands in the air during the show. I’ve never been so happy before. I love their songs and I will support them forever.

New Thitikarn,
Bangkok

It sounds like you had a great time at the concert, New. I've never really listened to Twenty One Pilots, but I know how it feels to see one of your favourite bands perform live. It can be an unbeatable experience that you'll never forget. — Editor
