Letter of the week

TEEN TERRORS

I'm 14 years old and I have the same problems as other adolescents. At home, I argue incessantly with my parents. Sometimes it's over trivial issues, but I quarrel because I don't like others to interfere with my life — even my parents. I prefer to keep things to myself.

At school, I express clearly that I resist some of the school's rules, and I don't like some teachers for some reason.

With friends, I am pleased to go out with them, but I also like to do my work alone.

There are currently many things changing in my body and my mind; it's really hard to control them. I feel kike there is a big cyclone passing through my life.

Phakhwan Prueksakot,
Udon Thani

I'm sorry you're going through a rough patch right now, Phakhwan. Even though I'm old now, I remember feeling the exact same way that you describe when I was your age. I could fly off the handle at the slightest provocation. I was moody and sullen, and I felt hideous and unloveable. Sometimes I'd be in a screaming fight with my parents, and even as I was yelling, part of my brain was saying: "Why are you doing this?" It's a sucky fact of life that you're at a really tough age right now. Your body and brain are developing very quickly, and you've got enough hormones rushing though your body to kill a race horse. About all I can say to you is that it gets better. It really does. Hopefully your parents remember what it was like to be your age, so they can at least understand — even if you're unbearable. Try to do things that make you happy to help you relieve stress. Try to exercise and make sure to get enough sleep. It's hard now, but it will be better soon. I promise. Good luck, kiddo. — Editor

COLD IN THE CITY

Human body temperature is within approximately 36 to 41 degrees Celsius. Right now, the weather in Bangkok is a lot different to previous years, and it's a lot cooler than the heat of May.

At first, I thought the news predictions of cold weather were fake. Usually these cool temperatures only stay around for a few days. But I like it.

Teera Siribunsuk,
Bangkok

I have to admit that I like it too, Teera. I've really enjoyed this cool weather. I've even had to wear a sweater on a few occasions. One of the things a Northerner like me really misses, living in the Tropics, is a nice, brisk morning with a cool breeze. You and I both know, though, that the hot weather is just around the corner. — Editor

STAR SCHOLARS

Last month, two friends and I went to Mae Fah Luang University for the entrance exam. We passed.

Breeze will study computer engineering. Book will be in the law school. I'm going to study liberal arts. We are very proud and gleeful that we passed the exams.

Moreover, we want to thank our teachers in extra classes for their advice and help. I’d also like to thank Student Weekly because it helped me to know a lot of things and know more English too.

Breeze, Book and Ja,
Uthai Thani

Wow! Congratulations, guys. It must feel really good to have the stress of preparing for those exams behind you and to now have a whole new experience ahead to look forward to. Thank you for your kind words about your teachers and about this magazine. I'm sure that your teachers would agree with me that they — and to a far lesser degree, Student Weekly — might have had some influence on your learning, but you guys did all the hard work. Great job! — Editor
