Aerolips is a new project created by U-Krist Sirichana, best known as the main force behind popular indie pop group Slow Reverse. Control is Aerolips’ first album, released on the dynamic new local indie label, Colorcode.
Aerolips are a synth-pop duo, with U-Krist providing all the electronic music and production, and singer Janjan Darunee Suepongsa providing the breathy vocals. Apart from the flawless performances, the strength of this album is in the top-quality songwriting. The lyrics and arrangements are imaginative and interesting, while the melodies manage to be complex, clever and highly memorable.
Album highlights include “Speedkills” and “Over,” both of which have melodies and lyrics that can stick in your head after a single listen. “Future Ex-Boyfriend” is another great track, and probably the song that most resembles U-Krist’s work with Slow Reverse.
There are no weak songs on Control, and listeners who like the opening track, “Make Believe,” will definitely enjoy the rest of the album. Aerolips also manage the difficult feat of creating music that works equally well on a club dance floor or as a pure listening experience while relaxing at home.
Control is definitely worth buying for listeners interested in modern, sophisticated electro pop with a hint of retro sounds from ‘80s pop artists like Prince and Michael Jackson. As a bonus, the CD is packaged with beautiful artwork including the lyrics for all the songs and great watercolour paintings by Koi Waranya Pukpasuk. — BE
