Rain hits southern provinces

Heavy rain battered Satun, Phuket and Trang, damaging houses and causing flooding in several districts, authorities said on August 7.

In Satun, heavy downpours and strong winds damaged houses and knocked down trees and electricity poles, causing a temporary power outage and traffic congestion. Trees also fell onto a local road.

Rescue workers and villagers took around two hours to cut up the trees with chainsaws and remove them from the roads.

North Korean minister visits Thailand

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong arrived in Bangkok on August 8 for an official visit to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The official visit was the first by a top North Korean diplomat in a decade. Foreign Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn said he will discuss a range of bilateral issues with Ri, especially existing cooperation between two countries.

Ri was scheduled to visit several royal projects and agricultural sites.

TERRORIST TERROR

Soldier killed in attack

There was an explosion. It happened in Narathiwat on August 6. One soldier was killed and three other military officials were injured. Police said the attack was caused by a terrorist group.
