Students improve their skills
The literacy rate among first graders has improved, but is not making enough progress to eradicate illiteracy, according to the Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC).
"Although the literacy rate of our first-graders [Pratom 1 students] has gradually risen since last August, we're still not going fast enough," OBEC secretary-general Karoon Sakulpradit said on April 6.
The number of students who are able to read and write increased by 3.33 percent in reading and 9.36 percent in writing.

Police arrest attacker
Police have arrested the 45-year-old neighbour of a 14-year-old girl who died following a suspected sexual attack on April 5 in Phitsanulok's Nakhon Thai district.
Son Humpieng was arrested on April 6 while he was hiding in a corn farm. Police took him to Nakhon Thai police station for questioning. The girl, a student at Nakhon Thani School, was found with a rope tied around her neck at her house in Bo Pho sub-district on April 5.

Six soldiers will be sent to prison. Authorities reported the news on April 4. They allegedly beat two privates at a military camp in Yala. One man died. The other man was seriously injured.
