Man shoots woman dead

A man shot his love interest dead on Valentine's Day in the middle of a Nonthaburi department store on February 14 before turning the gun on himself.

The shooting occurred on the second floor of the Central Plaza Rattanathibet in Muang district at about 11am.

Police said Suchart Pheupradit, 50, shot Pijakkana Somsakul, 44, three times with a revolver, then shot himself in the head. He died while being taken to hospital.

A 9-year-old girl, Papassorn Kwaniam, was also hit in the neck by a stray bullet. She is reported to be in hospital in a stable condition.


Illegal fishing

Boats seized in Thai waters

Two fishing vessels were seized in Phuket on the night of February 13 for illegal fishing when they returned to Thai seas from the Indian Ocean.

The vessels, which fish for tuna, were identified as Yu Long 6 and Yu Long 125. Their licences were earlier suspended for illegal fishing.

Naval authorities seized the vessels after they were found to have entered the Thai exclusive economic zone, naval officials said. The boats were then towed to a deep seaport in Phuket, officials said.

Bomb blast

Soldier killed on duty

A soldier was killed in Yala. It happened on February 12. He was killed when a roadside bomb exploded. The bomb exploded as a soldiers providing protection for teachers passed by.
