Train slams into pickup truck
One person was killed and another injured when a Bangkok-bound train hit a pickup truck at a railway crossing in the Muang district of Phitsanulok on June 12.
The accident occurred at about 10:30 am. The train smashed into the truck as it was crossing the tracks, police said. There are no barriers at the crossing.
The force of the impact tore the truck in half. A passenger in the vehicle, Jakkapong Boonchu, 22, died at the scene. The pickup truck driver, Nopparat Dingklang, was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Government waives fees for needy kids
The Education Ministry plans to drop extra tuition fees for students from poor families nationwide in a bid to reduce inequality in education, officials said on June 12.
At present, the extra tuition fees mean students have to pay for their elective subjects such as art, music and sports.
"We aim to support only poor students," said education permanent secretary, Kamchorn Tatiyakawee. "If their parents' income is lower than 40,000 baht per year or the students are orphans, they will be categorised as poor," he said.

Vendors arrested for overpricing
Four lottery ticket vendors were arrested. It happened in Chiang Mai on June 10. They were arrested for selling overpriced lottery tickets. They were selling tickets for 90 baht instead of 80 baht.
