Ministry proposes flight security
All flights will have to have a security officer on board under a proposed law change to increase safety in the air. The Transport Ministry is preparing to submit the draft aviation law amendment to the National Legislative Assembly.
Transport permanent secretary Soithip Trisuddhi said on September 9 that the change would give security officers the ability to control in-flight situations following an increase in unruly passenger incidents. In 1995 about 1,000 passenger incidents were reported, rising to more than 5,000 so far this year.
Soithip said the officers will tackle offences such as smoking in the toilets, verbal harassment of crew and physical assaults.
