Evening update
Apparently Lady Gaga wasn’t tired when she arrived in Bangkok last night. After checking into her hotel, she and her staff went out to watch a transvestite cabaret show at the Asia Hotel on Phaya Thai Road.
Reports said the 26-year-old American female pop singer and songwriter, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was impressed with the one-hour show and went backstage to shake hands with the performers.
Calypso Cabaret manager Nipon Boonmasuwaran said Lady Gaga's personal staff reserved 20 seats for the show but nobody expected her to show up.
"I feel very proud and excited because millions of people spend their money to see her concerts but the pop superstar spends her money to see our Calypso Cabaret show," Mr Nipon said.
The biggest concern is security but Lady Gaga looks like she is being well taken care of, both from her own people and Thai police.
She’s here!
She’s here. Lady Gaga, that is.
The “Mother Monster” as she calls herself on her twitter account @ladygaga arrived at Don Mueang airport in her private jet about 6:30pm Wednesday, and was greeted by a large crowd of fans before her Friday evening concert in Bangkok.
She immediately tweeted:
"I just landed in Bangkok, baby! Ready for 50,000 screaming Thai monsters. I wanna get lost in a lady market and buy a fake Rolex."
The Born This Way performer refers to fans as "little monsters".
The Bangkok concert at Rajamangala stadium has been a sellout for weeks, with fans due to arrive from as far away as Hanoi.
Her Bangkok stay should come as a bit of a relief for the controversial superstar. Her concerts in Manila took place despite strong protests from conservative Christian and Catholic groups who called her music Satanic.
No protesters here.
It is still not clear whether her scheduled concert in Jakarta on June 3 will go ahead. Extremist Muslim groups are threatening violence and police have not yet issued a permit for the concert.
One group, the Islamic Defenders Front, said it would create havoc if Lady Gaga were allowed to perform in Indonesia, calling her the "devil's messenger" who wears only a "bra and panties" on stage.
On the other side, however, are the singer’s many Indonesian fans. 50,000 tickets have already been sold for the Jakarta concert and there are countless thousands more Indonesians who want to her show to go ahead.
Here in Thailand, the biggest concern is over traffic and security. It’s going to be a hot time in the big city over the next two days.
