CHATROOM Photo courtesy of AP Letter of the week TRIP TO THE USAMy name is Bee, and Im in Matayom 3 at Arunvithaya School. My friends recommended Student Weekly to me, and now I always buy your magazine. Next year Im going to be an exchange student in America. Im very serious about learning English, but I think I still have a long way to go. I try to practise with foreigners, and I always listen to songs in English, but its not enough. I want to improve my English quickly. Do you have any suggestions for me? Phichaya Kamnoetsirikun Congratulations on your upcoming stay in the US, Bee. Im sure that it will be an exciting and challenging time for you. It sounds to me like youre doing some good things to improve your English already. Speaking, listening and practising every day is the key to improving. And youll soon discover the absolute best way to get better at English youll be living in the US, and youll have to speak English every day, all the time. Have fun. Editor GOOD GUIDEI have a problem thats making me worried. Im studying to be a tour guide, but my English isnt very good yet, and Im really disappointed. I dont have enough time to practise my English because my studies and housework chores are so hard. When I try to get everything done, I dont get enough sleep, and my health suffers. I think that my life and career will be good if I can learn to speak and understand English well. I would like to work as a guide and help people to have a happy holiday. Id like to show everyone the beautiful nature in the world, because nowadays many people think that technology is more important than nature. Kim Tae Song, Seoul Thanks for your letter, Tae Song. Its great to hear from readers outside of Thailand. You might try listening to English lessons or programmes while youre doing your chores. If you have an MP3 player, you can find all sorts of free, downloadable language-learning resources on the Internet Ive found them on iTunes, but Im sure there are others. If you dont have an MP3 player, try to find tapes or radio shows that you can listen to while you do other things. Good luck. Editor
