You might remember that a few years ago the movie 2012 had a lot of people all up in arms and convinced that the world was going to end soon. The 2012 story has been around for a long time. It basically arose because a few crackpots got it into their head that the ancient Mayan civilisation of Mexico had predicted the end of the world in that year.
