The Engineering Institute of Thailand sent engineering experts to Nepal to lend technical support after the recent earthquake.
Read the following story from the Bangkok Post to learn more about this helpful team.
The Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) on May 6 said a team of six engineering experts sent to Nepal following the earthquake that struck the country on April 25. The engineering team was able to provide Nepalese building authorities with engineering advice for rescues in affected areas.
GOOD ADVICE
The team, which recently returned from Nepal, gave technical advice about building safety and how rescue operations could be enacted without causing further structural collapse. They worked with private and state agencies in Nepal, including the National Society for Earthquake Technology.
TEAM OF EXPERTS
The engineering team was comprised of Ekasit Limsuwan, Komsan Malisi, Supoj Srinil, Nunthawath Charusrojthanadech, Phanumas Saingam and Amrit Shrestha, a Nepalese graduate student at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology in Ladkraband. The team conducted surveys in the quake-affected areas between April 29 and May 1, EIT president Suchatvee Suwansawat said on May 6.
EIT secretary-general Siriwat Chaichana said the Nepal experience would be compiled into a book.
“We will also continue helping Nepal by sending more engineering teams to the country,” he added.
RESCUE OPERATION
Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTAF) announced on May 6 that it will stop its search and rescue operation in Nepal. The Nepalese government has asked countries to wrap up rescue operations since there is now little hope of finding more survivors.
The RTAF team returned to Thailand on May 6, while the army’s emergency medical team came back on May 12.
Deputy army spokeswoman Sirichan Ngathong said the army’s rescue team arrived in Nepal on April 28. While there, they provided healthcare services to more than 1,300 quake victims and produced more than 48,000 litres of clean water for a military hospital in Kathmandu and for quake victims in the surrounding areas.
