    In Ayutthaya on July 18, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra samples rice from the Charoen Pokphand group which produces the Royal Umbrella brand rice. The tasting was held to boost public confidence in packed rice after reports that some brands may be contaminated with chemicals.

    Thai supporters of South Korean popular culture, known as tings, are sometimes derided. I went to a fan club meeting and met a group who say they’re in it for the love of K-pop. Most tings are high school and university students, but there are no limits when it comes to age.
