Letter of the week

YEN TO TRAVEL

I like winter, snow and foreign tourist attractions. I like travelling, but my parents are so busy that I can't go anywhere. Every time I am on my computer, I search for famous countries. The one I like the most is Japan.

Japan is not only charming but also full of lovely things. I really want to go there at least once in my life. And now my dream seems to be coming true because my parents told me that we are going to Japan at the end of next term.

I am really surprised and almost can't believe that we're really going there. Actually, I hardly travel at all — not even in Thailand. I hope that this trip will not be cancelled. Otherwise, I will be depressed for the rest of my life.

Panida Wattanasimuang,
Bangkok

I certainly hope your holiday plans work out, Panida. It sounds like you've done your research, and I'm sure you'll have a lovely time. Even if this trip does fall through, I don't think you'll be depressed for the rest of your life. You seem to have a very strong desire to see the rest of the world, and that's sure to give you the motivation to do what it takes to do some travelling. Have fun. — Editor

ZOO FOR YOU

Last weekend I went to Bangkok with my father and younger brother. We visited Dusit Zoo. We walked around and saw many animals. My favourite animal was the giraffe. It has a very long neck.

My brother was scared of the snakes. He doesn't like them.

After lunch we fed the fish, and then we went on a boat on the lake. That was really fun.

We stayed at the zoo for nearly three hours. When we went home, we were tired. We slept on the bus. It was dark by the time we got back.

I enjoyed the trip very much. I think I will go again.

Yotsakorn,
Lampang

I'm with your brother, Yotsakorn. I don't much care for snakes, either. If I have to see them, I'd much rather it be in a zoo than out in the wild. I'm personally a big fan of elephants, so I'm always excited to see them no matter where they are. You should start doing a little online research to see what some of the best zoos around the world are. Maybe you can start a list of the ones you'd most like to visit. — Editor

EUROPEAN VACATION

My last summer vacation was the best and farthest trip for me. There were lots of new things on the trip.

We arrived at Frankfurt International Airport on the morning of May 1. We went to a restaurant and had our first meal — a bowl of chicken soup and mixed-berry pie.

We visited many famous cities and a scary castle. At night we slept in a nice hotel. We travelled in Germany for a few days and then went to Paris.

Paris had lots of nice food. The symbol of the city is the Eiffel Tower. It is very beautiful and huge.

Next we went to Venice, Italy. It has lots of canals and boats. I bought three colourful masks there.

At the end of the trip, we flew back to Bangkok. The first thing that I noticed was how hot it was. Thailand is hotter than Europe, but I still love my country. No place is better than home.

Palin Boonma,
Lampang

What an exciting trip, Palin. You're quite lucky to have had the opportunity to see so many wonderful things. There's nothing like travel to give you a broader perspective on the world — and sometimes to help you more deeply understand what's unique and special about your own home country. — Editor
