Majority polled want to vote
Almost 80 percent of people polled said they would vote on February 2 if the election goes ahead, and the majority opposed another coup even if anti-government rallies turned violent, Bangkok Poll said on January 24.
The Bangkok University pollster interviewed 1,018 people aged 18 and over nationwide from January 21 to 23. Asked whether they would vote if the election took place, 79.6 percent of the polled people said yes, while only 9.9 percent said they would not and 10.5 percent were unsure.

Bangkok produces more garbage
The amount of rubbish collected in Bangkok increased to nearly 10,000 tonnes a day last year, according to City Hall’s environment department.
Department deputy director Somchai Chatsakulpen said waste collected between October 1 and September 30 last year weighed about 120,000 tonnes.
Somchai said the Japan Bank for International Cooperation has estimated that rubbish collection for this year will increase to more than 13,000 tonnes per day. The department will devise plans to try to reduce the amount of garbage in the capital, Somchai said.

Holiday horror
Krabi tourist boat sinks
A tourist boat sank. It happened in Krabi on January 24. The boat sank at about 11:30 am. All the passengers ended up floating in the sea. Nobody was injured. Everybody was later picked up by a patrol boat.
